What is the best way to clean a very old polyfill quilt?

I have a very old quilt with cotton-like (don’t know for sure) exterior and polyester filling that is in desperate need of cleaning. It is very delicate, as it is over 20 years old and has great sentimental value. I don’t know if putting it in the washing machine would be too harsh and ruin it. I also don’t know if getting it wet (even just washing it by hand) would cause the polyfill to clump and make it no longer quilt-like. Would dry cleaning work?

Old fabric tends to disintegrate with washing. I would have it dry-cleaned.
