High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Pottery is the ceramic ware made by potters. Major types of pottery include earthenware, stoneware, and porcelain. The places where such wares are made are called potteries. Pottery is one of the oldest human technologies and artforms, and remains a major industry today. Ceramic art covers the art of pottery, whether in items made for use or purely for decoration. Pottery is made by forming a clay body into objects of a required shape and heating them to high temperatures in a kiln to induce reactions that lead to permanent changes, including increasing their strength and hardening and setting their shape. Studio Pottery

Studio Pottery

$58.94

Studio pottery is made by modern artists working alone or in small groups, producing unique items or pottery in small quantities, typically with all stages of manufacture carried out by one individual. Much studio pottery is table ware or cook ware but an increasing number of studio potters produce nonfunctional or sculptural items. Since the 1980s there has been a distinct trend away from functional pottery (e.g. Grayson Perry) and some studio potters now prefer to call themselves ceramic artists, ceramists or simply artists. Studio pottery is represented by potters all over the world but has strong roots in Britain. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Timpledon, Miriam T./ Marseken, Susan F. This work traces the history of pottery and porcelain from early times down to the Philadelphia Exhibition of 1876. The study of this interesting subject has for more than a century been constant in Europe. A correct knowledge of it may now almost be called a liberal education. In the United States something has been done; and the public mind is now asking, What is it that makes pottery and porcelain so attractive to scholars, statesmen, women, and wits? 64th (2nd Staffordshire) Regiment of Foot

64th (2nd Staffordshire) Regiment of Foot

$111.53

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The 64th (2nd Staffordshire) Regiment of Foot was an infantry regiment of the British Army. The regiment was created as the 2nd Battalion, 11th Regiment of Foot in 1756, redesignated as the 64th Regiment of Foot in 1758, and took a county title as the 64th (2nd Staffordshire) Regiment of Foot in 1782. Following the Cardwell Reforms the regiment amalgamated with the 98th (Prince of Waless) Regiment of Foot to become The Prince of Waless (North Staffordshire Regiment) in 1881. In the new regiment the 64th Foot became the 1st Battalion due to its seniority over the 98th Foot. Although the 64th Foot fought in many of the major conflicts of the late 18th and early 19th centuries, it was normally in the more minor theatres of these conflicts. During the Seven Years War it served in the West Indies; in the Napoleonic Wars, its role was limited, again, to the West Indies and South America. In the mid19th century, it fought in the AngloPersian War and the Indian Rebellion of 1857, where one of its soldiers received the Victoria Cross.
