Can anyone tell me how to clean the wire in the old / vintage beads? They have tried to soak in biological washing liquid.

I purchased several necklaces ebay.Lovely old songs but the original thread in some very grubby.I know what that adds to the character, but I want to embellish a little. I do not want restrung.Not for resale, only for me to wear.
