questions about an antique figurine? 10 points to anyone who can REALLY help ?

yesterday i bought a “vintage” monkey figurine that was $18 and about the size of the space between your thumb and pointer finger in a circle. you can see the painted face slightly and it appears to be some type of dark grey metal that has mostly turned lichen green. the store manager claims its from the 1940′s, most likely a British toy. so here are my questions:
1.) is there any way to find out what time period its from?
2.) what metal is it made out of?
3.) where did it come from?

it also appears to be splattered with white? and has a thick metal wire tail?

1940s? I have to say not very likely – we didn’t have spare metal then for toys. And I think it would have been marked with Made in Britain (my own old toys from that period were). It’ll be tinplate. And I wouldn’t be surprised if it was Japanese and maybe pre-1940s. It’s not a great help, but these small figures are collectible, and I’d advise you to try researching Japanese, especially as they are very fond of monkeys. And an auctioneer would recognise it if you took it for an appraisal.
